Holidays in Brittany, France
Our renovated French Cottage, in West Brittany.
Set in a forest clearing within the National Park,
yet only ten minutes drive from the long sandy beaches of the Atlantic Coast.
Welcome to Coz Veil, our small country cottage in West Brittany, France. The cottage is situated on a quiet minor road, used only by local residents, farmers and the occasional cyclist or walker. Despite being isolated in the forest, we are only 2 miles from the local village, with boulangerie and mini-market, 7 miles from the main town of Chateaulin, which has two large supermarkets, and 7 miles in the other direction from the nearest beach, which happens to be the best in the area with 2 miles of wide golden sand.
The cottage interior mixes modern facilities with old French style. The main living room has a dining area, lounge seating and there is a fully equipped kitchen area. Also on the ground floor is a bedroom, a bathroom, separate toilet and a utility room, with 'fridge, washing machine and tumble drier. The main bedroom on the first floor is open plan with built in wardrobes.
There is a large garden with a small river at the bottom. In the south facing corner of the garden is a paved patio area, which catches the afternoon sun. At the far end of the garden is a summerhouse with its own dining furniture, loungers and a wooden decked area.
It is not practical or economic for us to operate holiday rentals commercially. The cottage is, however, available for holiday use by family and friends, for either a few days break or a full week. We don't charge, but ask you for a contribution to cover the running and maintenance costs.
With an amazing 750 miles of twisting, turning coastline, it's no wonder that so much of Brittany's rich heritage is linked to the sea. In parts, towering cliffs and rugged rock formations create the most dramatic scenery imaginable, whilst elsewhere there are glorious sandy beaches and classic resorts that are perfect for just about every conceivable water sport.
And in between these two extremes you'll discover literally hundreds of charming little sheltered bays and inlets, many of which form harbours for Brittany's traditional fishing villages where little has changed for centuries. Like almost everything about France's most westerly region, its coast has a character that is absolutely unique.
Inland, Brittany's fabulously beautiful countryside is equally diverse, with green rolling hills, peaceful river valleys, prehistoric sites, and enchanting forests.
Medieval towns and villages steeped in history and legend are everywhere, and numerous traditional festivals take place during the summer months, particularly in the west of the region where the Breton culture is strongest.
Regional cuisine specialities include a variety of seafood and lamb dishes, artichokes and crêpes, all of which can be very pleasantly accompanied by the locally brewed sweet cider.
